Carolan Freeman awarded: 2006 CGMG Female Vocalist Award.

Carolan Freeman is more than just a singer. She is more than just a performer singing other's music. Carolan Freeman is a songwriter. She is an artist, sharing her thoughts and her heart with her audience.

Carolan Freeman wrote her first song at the young age of eight years old. After that pivotal day in her life, Carolan continued to write songs and sing, mainly ministering at youth rallies and camp meeting during her teenage years.

As she grew older, Carolan began singing and traveling with her parents, The Freeman Family. It was during this time that Carolan sharpened and honed her skills as a songwriter, and also where she learned how to communicate her heart with an audience.

The group eventually had to come off the road. In an effort to keep the group alive, Carolan enlisted the help of different members of her family to sing with her, such as her siblings, chidren, etc. Carolan had to finally leave the road in 1999 to take care of her parents. However, Carolan still had that burning desire to sing and see others know the Lord through her ministry. At that point, Carolan embarked on her solo career.

Since that day, Carolan has been traveling the long roads and staying up the late hours to reach as many people as she can.

"The main desire of my ministry is to do it 'with soul purpose'," said Carolan. "In other words, in everything I write and everywhere I sing, I make sure that those songs communicate the message of Jesus Christ and His love to those to which I am ministering."

Carolan is no respecter of venue or avenue in which she can minister to others. Whether it is at a nursing home, street ministry, or a church, Carolan stays focused on what her calling is.

"I do what I do to reach the lost and become knowledgeable in my singing, writing, etc." said Carolan.

The songwriting process for Carolan has no set form or rigid structure.

"I am inspired by so many different things," said Carolan. "Sometimes I'm awakened in the middle of the night, or I'll hear something in a sermon or see something on a sign. Basically, I get bits and pieces and then fit them together like a puzzle."

In addition to her writing, Carolan says that her family is an exceedingly significant part of her ministry.

"The family unit is very important to me. We are very close and ministry oriented, and everyone just helps out in whatever way they can," Carolan expounded.

"The doors have just opened up all over the place," said Carolan. "My ministry has been so well received. I could never have imagined it to happen as smoothly as it has."

Carolan's plans are to eventually form a trio and take her ministry to another level.

"I have so many things that are stewing around in my mind about where this ministry needs to go. I will eventually form a group, but right now, this is where I'm called to be," Carolan responded.

It is a refreshing sound to hear of an artist/songwriter/performer who does not get too focused on the things that do not seem to matter from an eternal perspective.

"I do not want to focus on getting to the top," said Carolan. "I just want to win souls. I want to do everything 'with soul purpose'."
